The Cathedral Parish School of Catholic Spiritual Growth and Education is designed to help individuals act on their responsibility for their own spiritual growth by study, reflection, and prayer in the company of other adult Catholics. A variety of spiritual and religious classes and experiences are offered to nourish participants individually and in small groups. Classes are scheduled on Wednesday evenings and Saturday mornings, September through May. In addition, there are special events such as the annual Thomas Merton Program, and an annual overnight retreat.

Scripture Study Group
Facilitated by Deacon Robert Dever, this group will meet on the 2nd and 4th Fridays of the Month from 9:00 - 10:00 a.m. in the Patterson Education Center to discuss the readings for the upcoming weekend.

This 3-part video series by Ron Rolheiser will be held on three consecutive Wednesdays, from 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. beginning October 13 through October 27 in the Undercroft.

Bio of Speakers
Deacon Robert Dever
Deacon Robert has served as Deacon at the Cathedral of the Assumption since June of 2010. Deacon Robert and his wife Bonnie have three adult children and five grandchildren. Before coming to the Cathedral Deacon Robert served as Deacon/Pastoral Associate at St. Raphael and before that at St. Leonard. He was ordained a Deacon in June of 1996. He and Bonnie along with their two daughters were received into the Catholic Church during Easter Vigil 1990, in the Cathedral of the Assumption. He received a Master of Divinity degree from the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary and before becoming Roman Catholic he served as a Baptist Pastor for 25 years.
Fr. Eugene Hensel
Fr. Eugene Hensel, O.S.B., is a Benedictine monk of Saint Meinrad Archabbey. In addition to parish work, campus ministry and college teaching, Father Eugene also served from 1982 until 1996 as vice rector of Saint Meinrad College and then president-rector of both the College and the School of Theology. Since 1997, Father Eugene has been engaged in full time retreat work, conducting biblical retreats and workshops for priests, religious, and laity throughout the country and in several foreign countries. He brings to his work over 30 years of teaching experience, as well as a strong sense of the Church’s pastoral needs. With his wide contacts among clergy, religious and laity, Fr. Eugene brings to his students a deep and sympathetic understanding of the challenges facing may facets of life in the contemporary Church. Fr. Eugene is an active member of the Catholic Biblical Association, The Society of Biblical Literature, and the American Academy of Religion. He is the past president of the American Benedictine Academy. He has also recently been appointed to the advisory board of the Journal, Review for Religious. For the past twenty years Fr. Eugene has been a contributing writer for Weekday and Sunday Homily Hints, a service published through St. Anthony Messenger Press. He regularly contributes book reviews to the Catholic Biblical Quarterly, The Review of Biblical Literature, Cistercian Studies and other scholarly journals. He also is an associate editor for The American Benedictine Review.
Billy Reed Billy Reed worked two stints at Sports Illustrated for a total of 29 years, the last 10 of which he had the title Senior Writer. Reed also was sports editor and columnist for the Louisville Courier-Journal from 1977-1986. He laster was a sports columnist for the Lexington Herald-Leader. He has authored or contributed to 14 books. In recent years, he has been a public relations executive for the State of Kentucky in various capacities.
