Fall classes for the Religious Education for Families (REFrence) Program begin September 12 in the Patterson Education Center.  Registration forms are due now!  Contact Samantha Thomeczek for more information.

Children's Liturgy of the Word resumes September 12 during the 9:30 a.m. Mass in St. Louis Hall.  Children ages 4-7 are invited!


 

The Cathedral, in partnership with the Archdiocese of Louisville, will hold a Prayer Vigil honoring life and lamenting the scheduled execution of death row inmate Gregory L. Wilson on Thursday, September 16th at 7pm. Please join us in peaceful prayer as we pay respect to all those affected by violence.


Mark your calendars for PESTO FESTO, Sunday, September 19, 10:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. in the Undercroft.  The cost is $6.00 for an Italian-style meal of penne pasta with pesto, meatballs, bread and salad.  Come have lunch with us, reservations are not required!


The Cathedral of the Assumption Married Couples Group will have an introductory gathering on Saturday, September 25 at 6:30 p.m. in the Patterson Education Center.  Hors d’oeuvres, cheese and wine will be served.  For more information, contact Joan Huber, (502) 409-2495 or jehuber@gmail.com.


The annual Filipino Festival will be held Sunday, September 26 following the 5:30 p.m. Mass in the Undercroft.  Join us to savor the wonderful flavors of the Philippines!  The cost is $10 - proceeds benefit the Minority Student Scholarship Fund.  All are welcome, no reservations are requires.  Contact George Kaissieh for more information.

Cathedral Sunday, October 10, 2010  - Nominate someone for Cathedral Sunday Awards. Click here for award details.  The menu, prepared by Mastersons Catering, will include bibb lettuce salad, grilled pork loin with maple pecan glaze, cheese grits, green beans and pumpkin cheesecake.  Wine and cheese will be served in the Patterson lobby before dinner.  Join us for this yearly celebration of who we are as a parish!  Contact the Cathedral office to make your reservations by October 4 and for more information, (502) 582-2971.

Cross Bearer/Candle Bearer

Cross bearers lead the liturgical procession by reverently carrying the cross. Cross bearers also assist with the Archbishop’s crosier when he presides at Mass. During the liturgical procession, candle bearers carry the candles which surround the altar during Mass. Cross bearers and candle bearers attend a training session, must be in the sixth grade or older, and are committed to responsible service.

Lector 

Lectors proclaim the scripture readings during Mass. Lectors devote time to preparation and understanding the Word of God. Lectors attend initial training sessions, commit to private preparation for their ministry and are committed to responsible service.


Minister of Hospitalityhospitality

Hospitality Ministers greet and welcome people to Mass. Hospitality Ministers assist with seating, take up the offering, distribute worship aids and weekly bulletins. They also straighten up the Church after Mass. Hospitality Ministers attend a training session and are committed to responsible service.


  
Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion

Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion serve the Body and Blood of Christ to those assembled for Mass.  Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion are baptized and confirmed Catholics who have attended training and formation sessions and are committed to responsible service.

Server

Servers assist during the liturgies by performing tasks such as lighting candles and incense, preparing the altar, and holding the presider’s ritual book (Sacramentary). Men and women wishing to be servers must be in seventh grade or older. They attend a training session and are committed to responsible service.

  
  
  
  
  
SacristanMaggie Cyphers

The sacristan prepares the Church for celebration of Mass, oversees the care of liturgical vessels and vestments, and secures the building after Mass. The sacristan attends a training session and is committed to responsible service.

  
  
  
Liturgical Ministers for Funerals

Ministers of Hospitality, Servers, Lectors, Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion, and Cantors are needed to serve at parish funerals, typically celebrated at 10:00 a.m.

  
Art and Environment Committee

Members of the Art and Environment Committee coordinate decoration of the Cathedral Church on an on-going basis as well as for special feasts and seasons. The group meets as needed for planning, evaluation, and work sessions.

  
Worship Committee

The worship committee is made up of coordinators of each of the liturgical ministries.  The committee works with the Director of Worship to support and enhance the liturgical life of the Cathedral parish.
