Fall classes for the Religious Education for Families (REFrence) Program begin September 12 in the Patterson Education Center.  Registration forms are due now!  Contact Samantha Thomeczek for more information.

Children's Liturgy of the Word resumes September 12 during the 9:30 a.m. Mass in St. Louis Hall.  Children ages 4-7 are invited!


 

The Cathedral, in partnership with the Archdiocese of Louisville, will hold a Prayer Vigil honoring life and lamenting the scheduled execution of death row inmate Gregory L. Wilson on Thursday, September 16th at 7pm. Please join us in peaceful prayer as we pay respect to all those affected by violence.


Mark your calendars for PESTO FESTO, Sunday, September 19, 10:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. in the Undercroft.  The cost is $6.00 for an Italian-style meal of penne pasta with pesto, meatballs, bread and salad.  Come have lunch with us, reservations are not required!


The Cathedral of the Assumption Married Couples Group will have an introductory gathering on Saturday, September 25 at 6:30 p.m. in the Patterson Education Center.  Hors d’oeuvres, cheese and wine will be served.  For more information, contact Joan Huber, (502) 409-2495 or jehuber@gmail.com.


The annual Filipino Festival will be held Sunday, September 26 following the 5:30 p.m. Mass in the Undercroft.  Join us to savor the wonderful flavors of the Philippines!  The cost is $10 - proceeds benefit the Minority Student Scholarship Fund.  All are welcome, no reservations are requires.  Contact George Kaissieh for more information.

Cathedral Sunday, October 10, 2010  - Nominate someone for Cathedral Sunday Awards. Click here for award details.  The menu, prepared by Mastersons Catering, will include bibb lettuce salad, grilled pork loin with maple pecan glaze, cheese grits, green beans and pumpkin cheesecake.  Wine and cheese will be served in the Patterson lobby before dinner.  Join us for this yearly celebration of who we are as a parish!  Contact the Cathedral office to make your reservations by October 4 and for more information, (502) 582-2971.

The Healing Place

The Healing Place provides a full continuum of care to address the issues presented by its clients. Services include an overnight homeless shelter, recovery programs for men and women, health care, meals, sobering-up center, clothes closet, and case management. Opportunities for stewardship include serving meals, office work, and after school care for the children who are living at the recovery center with their mothers. The Healing Place has a campus for men at 1020 W. Broadway and a campus for women at 1607 W. Broadway.
 

Help Ministries of Central Louisville, Inc.

Help Ministries is an urban ministry focusing on homelessness prevention formed by eight downtown churches and guided by a Board of Directors. Volunteers from the churches work three-hour shifts (9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.) to arrange for emergency assistance - food, rent, utilities, medical assistance, identification, and haircuts - to residents of the 40202, 40203, and 40208 zip codes.  Help Ministries is located at 1031 S. 4th Street.

 RIGHT NOW AT HELP MINISTRIES: Individuals are needed to serve as emergency assistance volunteers.  Help Ministries is also looking for a volunteer bookkeeper who could donate 1-2 hours a week of his/her time to assist with accounting.  For more information or to volunteer, please contact Sharon Eckler, Executive Director, at 587-1999.

The House of Ruth

The House of Ruth is a social service agency that provides comprehensive care for people suffering from HIV/AIDS.  It is located at 607 E. St. Catherine Street. The Cathedral supports this ministry through our annual Desserts! Desserts! Festival fundraiser -- this year on Friday, June 4 from 11am-3pm!


Nativity Academy at St. Boniface

Nativity Academy is an independent, Catholic inner-city school serving 6th, 7th and 8th graders who qualify for the Federal Lunch Program.  Located in the St. Boniface School building at 529 E. Liberty, the school=s day begins at 7:30 a.m. with breakfast and concludes with an evening meal at 5:45 p.m.  The program includes the usual academic school day, an extended day program (enrichment activities from 3:00-4:30 p.m.) and an hour homework/tutoring period. There are also activities and field trips on some Saturdays. Volunteer opportunities include: tutoring/ homework buddy, monitoring students' participation in enrichment activities, chaperoning field trips and special events, offering an enrichment activity, and helping with mailings and secretarial needs.


St. John Center for Homeless Men

St. John Center is a daytime shelter for homeless adults providing mental health and social services, medical and dental services, and an alcohol and drug rehabilitation program. Persons are needed to give generously to create a hopeful environment for those suffering the instability and disorientation of homelessness. Opportunities for stewardship include hands-on work such as serving coffee, monitoring the phone desk, and checking clients into the shelter at the sign-in desk. The center, located at 700 E. Muhammad Ali Boulevard, is open from 7:00 am to 3:00 pm seven days a week, 365 days a year.
